One of the oldest and most lauded manufacturers in the world is BMW. The BMW logo is one of the best known logos in the world and has remained so for several years. While today they are known for making luxury cars, they have been involved in many different manufacturing projects. Regardless of what they have undertaken, quality has remained at the forefront of their endeavors. The beginnings of BMW can be traced back to the son of the inventor of the four-stroke internal combustion engine. Apparently making engines ran in the family. Gustav Otto was the founder of the initial company that led to BMW. He was an aviator and started a factory that manufactured aircraft and parts. In 1918, his company was closed down and bought out by another company called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. Simultaneously, the company Rapp Motorenwerke began specializing in aircraft engines. They supplied them to the Kaiser during the war, and though the engines worked well enough, they lacked over all quality. In an effort to address this design flaw, they hired a young designer named Max Friz. He developed an engine that was far superior to anything that had ever been made. The amazing thing is that he did it in a matter of weeks. Friz was promoted and in 1917, the Rapp Motorenwerke and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke merged into Bayerische Motoren Werke. BMW thrived during the Second World War with its aircraft engine production. Following the war, BMW was forced to close its doors. This only proved to be a temporary setback for BMW. They quickly translated their aircraft expertise into automotive excellence. Initially, BMW only built car and truck engines, but they soon expanded to include brakes systems and, thereafter, were manufacturing entire automobiles. The BMW logo has been projected fine craftsmanship for close to a century. Currently, they are sought after in practically every country around the world. While they may be lavishly priced, many are available as certified pre-owned BMWs. Regardless of how you get one, they are well worth the money.
